Iran’s Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amir Lajevardi has outlined the achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the ITU World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23).

In a post on his Iranian social media account, Lajevardi said he had traveled to the United Arab Emirates last week to attend the WRC-23 conference, which he said established regulations in the field of communications that the countries must implement during the next four years.

He said he had met with his Azeri counterpart, Samir Mammadov, on the sidelines of the conference and discussed the establishment of a joint cloud, a transit corridor from south to north, and an exchange of experience in the field of fixed communications.

“Then we spoke with South Africa’s Deputy Communications Minister Philly Mapulane,” he said. “The main topics of discussion were the development of mobile communications in the country, the presence of MTN in Iran, and the existence of common stances in the two countries.”

He added that the top South African official called the extent of development in Iran a surprise given the sanctions imposed on the country.

“We also had a good exchange with Turkey’s deputy communications minister. The creation of the East-West transit corridor, the mutual connection of the internal platforms of the two countries, and postal cooperation were among the important topics of this negotiation.”

The WRC-23 was held in Dubai, the UAE, between November 20 to December 15.
